There’s an old custom to recite a verse associated with your name at the end of the Amidah prayer. Some siddurim (prayerbooks) even include a list of verses for people’s names based on first- and last-letter connections.
This practice is meant to help a person connect more deeply with her name. In this life, knowing your name means being in touch with your purpose and striving to fulfill it. This deep knowing, in turn, is said to help the soul pass an early trial in the afterlife: remembering her name.
The Rebbe Rashab taught: “through the letters of the ‘verses of the names,’ one merits that he is allowed to stand near the open doors and see what transpires in the Heavenly chambers.”
With this search tool, you can find a verse for your name that follows the traditional formula (beginning and ending with the first and last letters of your name), reveal verses that have the roshei teivot (initial letters) of your name, or go deeper and discover the meaning(s) of your name embedded in the Hebrew shoreshim (word roots) of the text itself.
